How To Apply for SNAP Benefits in Charlotte, North Carolina
Charlotte, North Carolina Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher Program
Applying for SNAP Benefits in Charlotte is a slightly more involved process than in other major cities. Applicants for SNAP Benefits will need to visit the Food & Nutrition Services office located at the major benefits center in the middle of Charlotte. They do not provide any method for applying online, through a fax, or by calling. Applicants have to physically go to the center and fill out all required paperwork in-person.
When applying for SNAP, applicants are required to provide more than one proof of identity at the office. At least one ID with picture identification is required for the initiation of the process. In addition, applicants must bring proof of their income over the last three months as well as confirm proof of assets owned. Assets include checking/savings accounts, life insurance policies, registration cards, titles for motor vehicles, bond certificates, deeds to property and outstanding loans on property.
Lastly, applicants will be required to provide Social Security numbers upon application completion. Applicants will be screen, evaluated for eligibility and processed. Once accepted, the office will provide you with a number to call for application status checking. Alternatively, you can also contact the Charlotte Customer Connect at 704-336-3000 or use the online request form for following the status.
Based on your income classification, SNAP Benefits will be distributed to you via an Electronic Benefits Card. If your income is deemed dire, the benefits will be provided instantly. If you fall into the regular category, expect a month wait before the official transfer.
