How to apply for TANF in Denver
Denver TANF Application
In Denver, when applicants apply for TANF, they are also adhering to the state-specific Colorado Works (CW) program, which provides monthly cash assistance to eligible participants who have followed an application process. When applying for TANF in Denver, applicants are immediately considered and streamlined through the process for other benefits like SNAP and Medicaid.
To be eligible for TANF/CW, you will be required to participate in a work-related activity; the required number of hours per week will be determined by the age of your children and whether or not you are in a two-parent household. Eligible work-related activities include (but must be approved): full-time employment, part-time employment, community service, education programs, job skills training, job readiness, or job search. If you are a parent under the age of 18, you must attend high school or a GED program and live with your parents or other approved adult.
Like in New York, families are not permitted to have TANF benefits for more than 60 months ever in one lifetime. But, similar to all other major US cities, if the applicant meets the TANF requirements, they are guaranteed the benefits and will not be placed on a waiting list.
To apply, applicants can either visit the online website and fill out an application, pick up an application in person from the closest Denver office, and either mail or fax the completed application back. If it’s impossible to both visit the offices and download the online form, call 720-944-3666 to have one sent to you.
